Mother’s Day Message and Sweet Recipes

Stephanie and I are both working moms with 6 kids between us, so we know the meaning of a busy and harried life. Though we pretty much have the healthy eating thing down pat, we constantly have to remind ourselves to get out and exercise, take a minute or two to breathe deeply, practice a quiet meditation, allow some time for a hot mineral bath, or take trip to the salon for an eyebrow threading (Stephanie actually found an amazing local place that only charges $4)!

As Mother’s Day approaches, we find there is no better time than the present to take stock in how well we are (or are not) taking care of ourselves. We somehow make it through the tears, homework, illnesses, sports injuries, heartbreaks, SAT testing, messy rooms, and dirty diapers because there is no greater love than the love we have for our kids. But our needs often get lost in the shuffle.

So this Mother’s Day, we’d like you to think about how you can bring more self-care into your life. Not just on Sunday  . . . but every day. The more we nourish ourselves (not only with good food but with strategies that help to ease stress and bring us “back to center”), the more we can be there fully for our kids.

With that in mind, we’d love for you to pick one or two things to start bringing into your life on a regular basis. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Gratitude journal where you write down three things every day that you are grateful for
  • 3-minute meditation
  • Epsom salt baths 1-2 nights a week (add 2 cups Epsom salts, 1/4 cup baking soda to tub of hot water and soak for 20 minutes)
  • Deep breathing exercise (Breathe in 1 count Hold 4 counts Out 2 counts – do this 6-8 times, 3-4x day)
  • Massage/acupuncture/energy work
  • Yoga class

Now as promised, here are a couple of fun recipes to enjoy on Sunday or any day!

Chocolate Pecan Candies Recipe HERE.
These little candies hit the spot when chocolate cravings strike! They are packed with waist friendly coconut oil and rich antioxidants in the cocoa nibs. Just one or two is all you need.

What about you? What self-care strategies will you start bringing into your life? If you already have some good ideas, please share!

Happy Mother’s Day!!!
