Starting Your Day Off on the Right Track

You’ve heard it said many times . . .  “breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”  And while we are not convinced it is the most important meal, we know that what you choose to ingest first thing can really make a big difference in how you feel throughout the morning and very often, the rest of your day.

When you start your day off with sweets or foods that turns into sugar in your body (ie white flours, processed breakfasts), you will more than likely set up a mid-am blood sugar crash.  This can leave you feeling cranky, shaky, and battling brain fog. And then what? You reach for whatever is close by to fill the void, which may lead to another crash later in the day. 

How productive can you really be if you are constantly dealing with these crashes and cravings?  

We believe it all begins with not only what you choose but how you choose to balance your meal. Rather than reaching for a donut, bagel or bowl of cold cereal, look for foods with protein, fiber, and healthy fats. That way you will keep your blood sugar stable straight through till lunch and ward off mid morning hunger pangs or cravings. 

A word about protein, fat and fiber:

  • Morning protein (~ 15-20 grams) has been shown to help boost weight loss and maintain longer term steady blood sugar levels. 
  • Healthy fats are often neglected at breakfast but can be a critical component to staying satisfied throughout the morning, not to mention they are anti-inflammatory and can boost weight loss. 
  • Fiber helps fill you up, feeds your beneficial bacteria, and keeps your digestion running smoothly.
